Top 5 Tips for Cycling in Hot Summer Weather

Summer is here and has brought along with it soaring temperature and climate change many would have waited for maybe. In these climatic conditions, one would prefer staying in their rooms than doing outdoor activities, but what if we make cycling in this hot summer weather fun.

Cycling in hot weather could do more than just make you sweat, like causing quite a lot of acute health problems if not addressed. We believe in staying healthy and active and the weather should not become a barrier in your thirst for fitness or fun. While you keep up the good habit, we are here with a few tips that will help your summer cycling easier:

  1. Stay Hydrated: If you’re going to cycle outdoors right under the hot sun you definitely are going to sweat. The sun wouldn’t spare anyone and if not careful about it, you may be dehydrated. So, it’s always better to carry water and keep yourself hydrated time to time. While cycling, try carrying few energy bars, or high carbohydrate snacks as meat loaves or bananas and never forget to take plenty of water. Believe us, you’ll need it!
  2. Keep a Check on the Frequency: When it is hot and humid it is preferable staying indoors. Don’t be confused. Despite the high temperature, continue your exercise and cycling, but you might want to cut down on the time you spend in cycling. The heat may cause several health problems and the warm air that blows in these weather conditions do not help your cause. If you’re traveling long distances, keep your speed steady and do not move at very high speed. It may result in fatigue and take away the willingness to ride more. Try keeping a stable pace and that will help in saving your breath and make longer rides more comfortable.
  3. Avoid Heavyweight Clothing: The last thing you would want to do on a summer day wears heavy clothes and go cycling. They put more pressure on your body and make you sweat more, and that is something you would want to keep away from. Wear comfortable clothing with a lot of room for ventilation so you can get as much fresh air as possible while riding.
  4. Plan Your Route: If you’re going cycling to complete some tasks, we would suggest you plan the course of your journey. You surely would not want to wander around a lot aimlessly in the hot weather. Planning your routes keeps you at an advantage and helps you get done with all your work sooner and does not expose you to the rough weather for long. Always try to avoid the hottest part of the day, which is noon when rides become unpleasant. You can advance or postpone your trips to some other time of the day when the sun isn’t so angry.
  5. Wear Helmet: Even be it summer, always wear a helmet when you take your bicycle outdoors for a ride. In summer the helmets come in handy as it also shields your head from the direct rays of the sun and at the same time also ensures road safety. We are sure you would not think of compromising on your safety on so many levels by not wearing a helmet.
