We are a huge family now and we are grateful to our users for making it such an enormous success. This blog is for all our lovely users who are eager to know about the initial days of YULU and also for those who have just joined our family. YULU witnessed a very humble beginning but Amit’s constant believe and hard work brought us on the map! Today, we are one of the leaders in the business, thanks to all of you people who trusted in us and helped us grow every day.

Let us rewind in time and tell you how it all started.

The focus of the entrepreneurs has changed or instead shifted from just making profits to being the facilitators for a societal change. They no more want to talk about far-fetched goals; they believe in reality, they work towards bringing about the changes and delivering the results. Amit Gupta, co-founder and CEO at Yulu and co-founder at InMobi, is one such entrepreneur who believes in bringing about the change and not just talking about it. After running the Revenue and Operations functions for many years on a global platform, he led an ambitious initiative for InMobi which potentially changed the world of advertising and to top it all; it created a multi-billion dollar business for InMobi. Apart from InMobi, Amit is pro-active part in establishing a vibrant startup ecosystem. He is a patron investor and encourages young entrepreneurs with the various aspects of running a startup. After giving InMobi the stability and running it successfully, Amit handed over his responsibilities to start his second venture – Urban last-mile mobility solution YULU. This was when India was warming up to app-based bicycle sharing service which is already quite popular in countries such as China. After happily running InMobi, Amit Gupta was committed to solving the traffic and related problems, which is becoming a big social problem in the country, in the coming five to ten years. He aimed to make an impact using technology. After successfully establishing InMobi, making it known on a global platform, Amit took a step towards his next big venture to solve the traffic congestion by providing first mile, last mile and short distance commute with bicycles. So, in the year 2018, YULU was set to launch its bike-sharing service in Bangalore with a few hundred bicycles.

“Yulu’s vision is to bring down the level of traffic congestion by providing a scalable, affordable, efficient and clean solution for the first mile, last mile, and short distance commute. We strongly believe that short commute mode can be made more Efficient, Affordable and GREEN, thereby ensuring that future generations will have a healthy environment to live. We want to replace big personal vehicles with a smaller form factor that does not require fossil fuel”, says Amit on being asked why YULU. Yulu has aligned itself with India’s top priorities namely “Make in India”, “Clean India”, “Green India”, “Digital India”, “Cashless India” and “Adoption of Aadhaar”, which has led to a strong support from the government at state and national level. Amit Gupta believes in sustainable development. Innovation is critical to business. Sustainability is a global challenge which requires innovation. Many organisations have publicly committed to innovating towards environmental, social and economic sustainability, but a behavioural gap remains. To foster the effectiveness of these ventures, there is an urgent need to understand the conditions for successful innovation towards sustainability, backed by empirical evidence.

From just over a hundred bicycles, we have reached a place where the numbers have doubled, services increased, users showing more and more interest in our service, and appreciating our bikes. Our family has grown and is widespread across now. From Amit Gupta’s vision, it has now become the vision of the thousands of people who are using our bicycles for commutation every day. We are using IoT technology to create a vast network of shared dockless bicycles that can be rented easily by a user-friendly app in pay per use business model. We are a mission-driven company based out of India with a solid founding team and big ambitions. At Yulu, we believe that every day is a mission and success is exciting when it’s attained with fun and as a team. If you want to solve the problem of traffic congestion, reduce pollution, positively impact the society, let’s have a conversation to partner in our journey to shape a new India for our future generations, let’s YULU and keep pedalling the change!
